Ocean and Wave Photography

These are my favorite types of photos to shoot. The reason why I enjoy photographing the artistic wave from my point of view is because it’s so hard to do. Most morning I will wake up 4:30am and drive all the way out there to the beach. If I’m lucky the conditions will be good enough to even get into the water. Secondly, once I get into the water I usually have to take about 700 photos (or 16G of memory) to get maybe 1 or 2 photos.

I think wave photography has gotten so popular from Clark Little. He’s an amazing photographer, and since then people think you can just buy a waterhousing and hold it out next to a wave, you’ll have beautiful photos. It’s not the case… It literally took me a year before I got one shot. All of my shots prior to that were horrible. After 5 years of shooting waves, 2 broken fingers, 5 days in the hospital, multiple injuries, I’m finally starting to get the hang of it. However, I can admit that it is much more satisfying getting one good shot from all the effort it takes from me.

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoy taking them. – Kenji
